Parks and Mt. Talbert in Happy Valley
City parks
The City of Happy Valley lists its parks on its parks and trails page. Happy Valley Park, at 13770 SE Ridgecrest Road, is 32 acres. The City lists baseball and softball, a playground, a splash pad, tennis, a skate park, a dog park, walking trails, restrooms and a shelter among its amenities. It is also where the City holds its summer concerts and Fourth of July festival.
Hidden Falls Nature Park, on SE 152nd Avenue, is 21.3 acres with a 0.84-mile multi-use paved trail and viewing areas for the falls. The City notes that the path is paved but somewhat steep.
Mount Talbert Nature Park
Mount Talbert Nature Park is managed by Metro, the regional government, not by the City. Metro describes a volcanic butte that rises 750 feet, between Interstate 205 and Happy Valley, with more than four miles of trails and a mosaic of habitats. It is open sunrise to sunset, parking is free, and the main entrance is at 10945 SE Mather Road. The City's park list notes that dogs are not allowed there. Metro says spring brings migrating songbirds and wildflowers in the wet meadows, and fall brings color from Oregon white oak.
The City's history pages include a short essay on who Mount Talbert is named for, listed on the City History page.
